Australia's first established city, Sydney is the capital of New South Wales (NSW) and is situated around the finest harbour in the world. The population of Sydney and surrounds is a multi-cultural society of 4 million. Sydney, first settled by the British as a penal colony on 26th January 1788. Prior to colonisation, Aboriginal people inhabited Australia for at least 40,000 years until Europeans arrived.

Compared to many cities, Sydney is a young city by any standard. Sydney, is a major financial and trading centre for the Asian - Pacific Region, Sydney airport is close to the Central Business District (CBD) and public transport is available from the airport to the CBD.

The average temperate in summer November- January ranges from 25ºC- 37ºC often with high humidity. In winter the average temperature ranges from 10ºC – 18ºC May – July. The average annual rainfall is approximately 1,224mm.

Much of the harbour foreshore is dedicated national park. Two national parks, Ku-ring-gai Chase to the north and Royal National Park to the south are classic Australian bushlands at its best. The parks abound with flora and fauna along with many native animals and birds.
