Friday 28th October: Eighteen Ambassadors were met at the airport by Pam & Richard Slater. Arriving by coach at the Ku-Ring-Gai Town Hall at Pymble, the Ambassadors were met by their hosts. Following afternoon tea, the Ambassadors spent the rest of the day with their hosts. The Ambassadors comprised ten New Zealander's, two members from Canada, two members from Somerset UK and four members from Seattle-Tecoma Clubs.
Saturday 29th OCtober: We met at Milson's Point at 10.00 am. A walk across the Harbour Bridge ended at the Rocks. Brian Nixon gave an informative talk on the Rocks heritage area. Afterward, we walked down to the harbour where we had a group photo taken. Hosts were then free to take their Ambassadors where they wished.
Sunday 30th October: A Wish day for the Ambassadors followed by dinner hosting that evening.
Monday 31st October: A trip to the Blue Mountains. Brian Nixon drove a Community Bus. First stop was Glenbrook Visitors Centre for morning tea, then Scenic World Katoomba. The Ambassadors were delighted to be given a Scenic Pass which enabled them to go across the Jamieson Valley on the Skyway, then down the scenic railway, then along the walkway, then a ride back to the top on the cable car. Hosts packed a picnic lunch, and after a refreshing cup of coffee, they proceeded to Blackheath – Bacchante Gardens – to view the magnificent Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Waratahs etc.
Tuesday 1st November: A free morning followed by Melbourne Cup Day function held at Richard & Pam Slater's daughter's home in Castle Hill. Over fifty (50) people gathered and joined in the fun and excitement of the day. The afternoon was spent enjoying a delicious assortment of substantial nibbles, sipping champagne and participating in sweeps before watching the Melbourne Cup.
Wednesday 2nd November: A pleasant day was spent travelling to Watson's Bay by ferry where we had lunch. After lunch we walked to the gap, and then caught a bus to Bondi Beach to do a coastal walk viewing Sculptures by the Sea.
Thursday 3rd November: Though it rained, our Ambassadors were able to spend the day with hosts and enjoy their wish day. In the evening we held the Farewell Dinner at the Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club. We had an excellent attendance of fifty-eight (58) people. The buffet was plentiful. The Ambassadors did a wonderful skit from the Miss World competition which was hilarious. We all had a good laugh.
Friday 4th November: Last day of the journey (alias exchange). With new friendships formed, we bid farewell and waved off the Ambassadors as they were taken by coach back to the airport.
I would like to thank the Hosts, Day Hosts, Dinner Hosts and all of those who attended the functions we organised. Without you we could not have had a successful journey.
