Bundaberg offers a great variety of activities and many places of interest for our visitors.

The southern end of the Great Barrier Reef is defined by two offshore coral cays: Lady Elliot Island and Lady Musgrave Island. Both islands are relatively close to Bundaberg and can be accessed by day trips: one by sea and one by air. These trips are optional and are not included in the journey programme. Visits to these islands can be booked ahead and taken on the free day.

The major commercial activity in the Bundaberg region is horticulture. The Bundaberg district produces one fifth of Queensland’s sugar cane crop. Harvesting and milling of the cane occurs between June and November each year and the journey to Bundaberg will have some focus on this major industry. There will always be a visit to the Bundaberg Rum Distillery with complimentary tastings to follow. Other major horticulture crops are macadamia nuts, sweet potatoes and strawberries.

A visit to the Bargara Brewhouse (located in Bundaberg) is also an enjoyable experience for those who enjoy a craft beer.

It is unlikely that you will visit Bundaberg without getting to know Bert Hinkler, Bundaberg’s pioneering aviator. The Botanic Gardens hosts the Hinkler Hall of Aviation and Mon Repos, Hinkler’s house that was dismantled in Southampton, England and re-erected in the Botanic Gardens.

Another interesting day trip might be to the small coastal towns of Agnes Water and Town of 1770. Captain Cook landed at what is now the Town of 1770 in, of course, 1770.

In season, whale watching tours leave from Bundaberg and turtles come ashore at Mon Repos Beach to lay their eggs.

Also a trip by coach and boat to Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world, is a memorable experience but this trip might be better undertaken over a couple days after the journey to Bundaberg has been completed.

Bundaberg has a very equable climate and average temperatures in Bundaberg are:

Summer -- December to February Max. 30°C / 86°F Min. 22°C / 72°F

Winter -- June to August Max. 22°C / 72°F Min. 10°C / 50°F
