NEW ZEALAND JOURNEY NO 10783 TRIP REPORT

Our journey (alias exchange) to the three clubs, Taupo, South Taranaki and Neslon was an outstanding success. The matching process by the relevant Ambassador and Host Coordinators worked to perfection. The New Zealand clubs are to be congratulated on their ability to attract new members to their clubs and to be able to ensure those new members are involved in the journey process.

Everyone would agree that their hospitality and friendship was excellent. The journey programs were diverse and catered for our interests. The great scenery with mountains, rivers, lakes were like post cards productions, albeit the weather wasn't at its best, but we did experience snow and wintery conditions, which we do not have in Bundaberg, especially at Mt Ruapehu.

One thing that we all did comment on was the attention to detail, courtesy and hospitality that was evident in their shops, tourist centres etc as they endeavour to deliver superior customer service and treat everyone's request as important and it was their duty to deliver satisfaction to the customer.

The train trip from Greymouth to Christchurch was a scenic highlight at the completion of our trip. To see first hand the devastation of the earthquake damage in Christchurch was a sombre / sad occasion and then to witness their enthusiasm as they set about to rebuild the city is quite amazing. One will never know of all the personal tragedies that were experienced and we do hope that those people are able to put their lives back together.

I do believe that our organisation has a role to play in extending friendship across international barriers, and whilst being able to view great scenery is memorable, it is the people contact, the personal experiences with our hosts, and their friends and the clubs is the real memorable experience.

It is pleasing to report that our touring group were never late, no one got ill, no lost luggage and we all returned home safely. It was my first role as an external Ambassador Coordinator which was a rewarding experience and was made enjoyable by the great co-operation of all our ambassadors.

Many Thanks, Don McKewen
