Adelaide is the capital city of South Australia with a population of just over 1 million people. It is situated on coastal plains and surrounding hills. It is blessed with a Mediterranean type climate with hot dry summers from December to February and short cool winters from June to August when most of the 500 mm (20 inches) rainfall is expected. Spring and Autumn are mild and warm.
Adelaide has a reputation as being one of the most liveable cities in the world, with wide leafy street and elegant architecture. It is a planned city and within the city square mile are the State's major cultural institutions, also there are an extraordinary number of restaurants, cafe's and pubs. Adelaide is nestled between two gulf waters, where there are 32 kms of clean safe and sandy beaches and a low range of hills. There are preserved natural habitats and environments for flora and fauna and abundant wildlife roam the hills, land and sea.
There are two free city buses. One is the City Loop service, which takes you on a loop around the CBD area. Adelaide free buses provide easy access for the elderly, people with disabilities and people using prams and shopping trolleys. The platforms and ramps make it easily accessible for people with disabilities and families with prams.
Then there is the Adelaide Connector Bus provided by the Adelaide City Council linking major facilities within the North Adelaide and Adelaide CBD areas. The Adelaide Connector service runs three buses including the Tindo with experienced staff and are fitted with disability access. The bus named Tindo, the Kaurna Aboriginal word for 'sun' is the newest addition to the Adelaide City Council's Adelaide Connector Bus service. Tindo is the world's first solar-powered electric bus! It is recharged using a photovoltaic system installed at the Adelaide Central Bus Station. This system is the largest grid connected solar photovoltaic system in the State making the bus carbon neutral.
These services link shopping precincts, community centres, libraries, hospitals, universities and schools to make Adelaide more accessible for residents and visitors alike. Also a tram which takes you from Adelaide to Glenelg and the beach. There is also a unique O'Bahn busway that serves the north east side of the city which should not be missed. The city is compact enough to be walked in a day and the climate is considered to be like the Mediterranean with temperatures ranging between 15°C and 29°C on average. Within a 1 hour drive from the city we have many lovely wine growing areas including the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley and McLaren Vale. There are golf courses within the city limits and the International airport is within 5 km of the city centre.
