casterton-2-w260Casterton is part of the Glenelg Shire in the South West of Victoria, located on the Glenelg river in a picturesque setting among rolling hills, with a population of approximately 1,800.

Our principal city is Portland (population 10,000) situated one hours drive to the south. This is a coastal city and of historic note as the first settlement in Victoria.

A 45 minute drive to the west takes us to Mount Gambier in the state of South Australia.

This is a city of approximately 28,000 people and famous for its' Blue Lake.

Around Casterton we have many places of interest, so we enjoy showing them to our ambassadors.

Sporting facilities are excellent, some of which include golf, tennis, lawn bowls, football, croquet, squash, basketball, indoor bowls, darts, badminton, netball, polo crosse and horse racing.

Major agricultural pursuits include sheep and wool, beef cattle, with some dairying and cropping.

Pine trees and more recently blue gum plantations are being developed.

The climate is of a temperate nature - Autumn and Spring in particular; while Summer and Winter may produce extremes of heat and cold occasionally .

Our small community is supported actively by a vast number of clubs such as Lions, Rotary, Apex, Red Cross, C.W.A., R.S.L., Scouts, Garden Club, Senior Citizens, Masonic Lodge, C.F.A., and St Vincents de Paul, to name a few. We are lucky enough to have our own Pipe Band and a Vice Regal Band.

We have a kindergarden, primary and secondary schools and a Sacred Heart primary school.

Our supportive and friendly community enjoys meeting ambassadors from other clubs and countries and to display some of our features like, Warrock Homestead, Carnation Farm, Zaadstra's Art Gallery, Dergholm Droppers, Bailey's Rocks, The Bluff and lastly our famous Christmas lights during the month of December.

The primary emphasis of the Casterton Friendship Force club is to make friends with ambassadors with a welcome reception. The week is then planned within the budget to include a group dinner, daily planned excursions and free days for ambassadors and hosts to indulge in leisurely activities. When planning journeys all special interests of ambassadors are taken into consideration and met where possible.
